Joel Dunning, L.Ac., Dipl Herb., M.A.
Joel Dunning’s journey into Eastern approaches to health began with his achievement of a Black Belt in Karate, which sparked his fascination with holistic medicine. After graduating from Creighton Prep, Joel pursued a Pre-Medicine Degree at Saint John's University in Minnesota. His passion for understanding health from diverse perspectives led him to study for two years in China, followed by earning a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine at Yo San University in Los Angeles.
He is nationally certified by the NCCAOM and state-licensed in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbalism. Joel’s training extends beyond the foundational “Traditional Chinese Medicine” he learned in school. He holds advanced certification in Master Tung Family Style Acupuncture and completed a two-year herbal certification in Dr. Tian’s lineage.
Since starting his practice in 2003, Joel has dedicated himself to sharing the benefits of this ancient medicine at local and national levels through community clinics, lectures, and retreats. He has worked with diverse populations, including cancer patients at the Jane Nylen Cancer Clinic in Sioux City and underserved communities through Wild Root’s Natural Medicine Clinic in South Omaha.
Joel also taught Eastern Medicine at Omaha School of Massage and Universal Massage Schools for several years. Alongside his clinical work, he continues to practice and teach martial arts and meditation techniques, including Yang Style Tai Qi, Eight Treasures Qi Gong, Yin Yoga, and Sundo Qi Gong, which has been a core practice of his since 2006.
